Our school celebrated Racial Harmony Day yesterday. The children learned about other cultures and why it is important for us to have racial harmony in Singapore through a concert (Rainbow Day) put up by the P4.

Here are some photos taken by Mr Ali outside our classroom. The children can't wait for their turn to perform on their Rainbw Day in Term 4.

Every year, each child has a chance to perform a class item with his/her class on one of the Rainbow Days. This year the P1 will be having their Rainbow Day on Children's Day. Parents are invited to come for the celebration.

This is the dance item I have selected and the class had agreed on.
The title of the song is Waving Flag. Please click her to view the dance video. This song is about freedom and growing stronger. I love the beat and the simple dance steps.

The class have started to learn to sing the song & some of the dance steps this week where there are some small pockets of time after class work.

Somwhere in mid August, I will be calling some mummies ( most probably the homemakers) to help out with preparing the coloured ribbons for the children. It is good that they rehearse with the ribbons.

The children are excited about the performance . A few shy girls who were reluctant to dance have actually joined in to dance and I am amazed how fast the children pick up the dance steps. A few boys have volunteered to do soem cool moves as the prelude. We will practice and see how it goes.

Should your child ask for your permission to play the you tube link at home, please show your support . I told them they can practice at home when they are free.

Our class will be having Visual Arts lesson in Term 3 as part of the school PAL programme. Our art instructor is Miss Salina, a gifted art teacher in Endeavour Primary School.

For the first two lesson, the children created self portraits with oil pastels . Besides learning art techniques, they also went on an experience of Self Awareness. There are no right or wrong answers in Art so they are encouraged to explore and take risks.

Some of the children were conscious about how they drew their "mouth" differently from their friends or teacher. The beauty of art is that there is no one right way to follow. The children were taught to embrace that diversity and look out for similarities and differences between their self potraits and that of their friends.

The end result is a wonderful display of beautiful pieces.

The children had a wonderful time. I feel it is more important for them to enjoy the process of making art than the end product. I hope I have been able to capture some of these processes for you in these photos.

Dear parents,
