Learning in pairs ...

Learning in groups

Getting them ready for this week performance task. Seems like they are all ready !

The children learned in pairs to test each other.

I returned the Math Test papers to the children on last Wednesday. Before I returned their test papers to them, I sat them on the floor and wrote 3 letters on the board.

A
B
C

Then I explained to the childen to check their grades as follows :

A for 40 - 50 marks
B for 30 - 39 marks
C for below 30 marks

After they matched their grades, I then explained what those grades means

A : Always work hard
B : Better - They can be better
C : Catch Up - To revise their work and catch up

Hope this simple explanation will motivate the A graders to strive for more excellence . The  B graders to push on and be better and the C graders to work harder to catch up.

Do revise the Maths concepts with your child on a daily basis even if there are no homework. An half hour check on what was taught in class and a few practice sums on  addition and subtraction will help reinforce what is taught in class. They can also practice one or two problem sums.

For this term they will need to confidently add and subtract with regrouping. This regrouping skill is needed again when the numbers gets bigger to 100. Some of the pupils are not able to regroup accurately. I have identified them and have done a reteaching in a small group. But they need more practise at home.

With your home support, I know they will be able to master this required skill.

The school held a celebration on 7 Aug to celebrate Singapore's 48th birthday. All the staff and student came to school dressed in red and white. The parade square looked bright and different from the normal school days.

The students enjoyed a concert put up by the P2 children and the Drama Club. The school choir also led us in a medley of national day songs. The children went home with a pack of coloured markers marked with our National Education messages. It was a great and fun day for all.
