We read a big book "Is the Wise Owl Wise?"
We have a lot of grammar items to cover for this book but I thought the story lands itself into a nice drama with the many animals in the story.
We did not have the luxury of time for the class to make animal masks so we made head bands instead. I was happy that the class completed the head bands in slightly more than a period.
We rehearsed the story and here are some photos we would like to share.
We read a big book on Chinese Opera. I have included photos of some pages of the big book so that you can follow through the story .
At first, I was rather apprehensive about getting the children to act out this drama. This is because in the story , the boys acted as warlords who had a BIG fight. I was actually quite worried about the fighting part. That the boys will be hurt during the act.....
I had to explain and reminded the boys several times that we are only "acting" and I do not want them to get so real into their roles that they "slashed" and injure their friends.
A few days before the drama , the children made some Chinese Opera masks. The class could not contain their excitement this morning when they brought their towels, metal bowls/plates and chopsticks.
Here are the photos and video of our little act. I was glad the boys followed the instructions well. The girls also did very well with their plates & bowls following the beat. As I stepped back and watched them play, I am glad that I took the risk. There are some days where the lessons did not go well as I wanted it but today I thought the lesson went well.
Here is the website with the mask template if you would like to make more masks on your own.
